FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about childcare in a daycare family.

Questions about registration

Why do I need to fill out the registration form?

It is important to fill out the registration form so that we have all the information we need to find the best daycare family for your child. The more information you provide, the quicker we can determine whether a place in a daycare family can be offered.

Why do I have to pay a registration fee?

The registration fee of CHF 120.00 [*] is a one-time contribution towards the costs of administrative procedures, finding a suitable daycare family, mediation, getting to know each other, and bringing the daycare family and parents together. If no placement is made, the registration fee will not be refunded.

[*] If authorities or specialized offices are involved, CHF 180.00 will be charged, see Cost Overview TFZO.

Questions about subsidies/financial support

How can I apply for financial support (subsidies)?

You have the option to apply for subsidies from your local municipality according to your income situation. Please check under "Our Municipalities' section which documents you need to submit to the appropriate office. The assessment must be completed before the start of care.

I forgot to submit the subsidy documents for the annual recalculation. Can I apply for subsidies retroactively?

No. You cannot receive subsidies retroactively. TFZO must charge you the full price. Subsidies can only be applied if you have a valid subsidy confirmation/tariff notification from your municipality or the TFZO office. Make sure to apply for the documents in time.

Questions about childcare costs

How much does childcare cost me?

Our full-board rates cover costs and are not profit-oriented. Please refer to the cost overview for the rates in your municipality. Meals, surcharges, overnight stays, and travel expenses will be charged additionally. Thanks to our cooperation with the municipalities, you have the option of applying for subsidies.

Is childcare in a daycare family cheaper than in a daycare center?

It is not possible to provide a general answer to this question. Since childcare costs in a daycare family are billed on an hourly basis, this depends on the actual or contractually agreed scope of care and the cost of meals.

Why do I pay a deposit?

The deposit payment serves to secure the wages of our caregiver.  The care invoice is issued at the end of the month (after the care service has been provided) and must therefore be paid in the following month. The deposit is interest-free and corresponds to approximately one month of care, based on your care rate and the contractually agreed care hours. Once the care relationship has ended, you will receive a full refund of the deposit.

When does lunch start?

Lunch supervision officially starts at 11:45 a.m. and lasts until the start of afternoon classes. This is regardless of when the daycare child arrives at the daycare family.

Why is afternoon care charged continuously up to and including second grade?

For younger children, this is for their safety. If afternoon classes are canceled, the caregiver can easily take over childcare. There are no exceptions to this rule.

We are going on vacation. Do I have to pay for childcare during this time?

Parents may take a maximum of four weeks of leave outside of the caregiver's vacation period. These weeks do not have to be paid for if the caregiver is notified at least 30 days in advance. Any additional vacation time taken will be billed in accordance with the care agreement.

Can I spontaneously withdraw my child from childcare?

One joker day can be taken per semester. This must be notified to the caregiver seven days in advance and is free of charge. Further cancellations will be charged as normal in accordance with the care contract.

My child is sick. Will I still be charged for childcare?

Care will continue to be charged. From the sixth day of illness/accident, you can submit a medical certificate, after which care will no longer be charged.

Questions about childcare

My child is very easygoing. Does he or she still need to settle in?

Yes. Settling in is the most important foundation for the child's long-term well-being in the daycare family. It serves to build a relationship between the child and the caregiver. The settling-in process is very individual and is adapted to the child's needs.

Is the caregiver/daycare family supervised and assessed by a specialist agency?Y

Yes. Our application process is subject to clear guidelines and results in a careful selection of our caregivers. As part of our quality management, we implement the following measures:

  • An annual criminal record check and special private extract are required for all persons over the age of 18 in the daycare family's household.
  • The training agreement with our caregivers in accordance with Kibesuisse includes basic training and a first aid course, as well as annual continuing education in the field of education.
  • Annual employee reviews between the caregiver and the responsible specialist support staff member
  • The caregiver and parents have the opportunity to speak with the responsible specialist support staff member at any time.
  • Caregivers are offered regular professional exchanges with an external specialist.
  • We work with the QualiTaf standard. This is a cantonal procedure for quality assurance and development in daycare families and daycare family organizations, based on the QualiKita standard.
  • The evaluations of the trial periods for daycare children are carried out with the parents and the caregiver.
  • Caregivers are subject to the reporting requirements of their respective municipality, see the Ordinance on Daycare Families and Daycare Centers (V TaK).

Can the caregiver pick up our child from kindergarten?

The journey to school is the responsibility of the legal guardians. Picking up the child is not the responsibility of the caregiver, but can be agreed upon individually.
